英commander-in-chief of one of the “Eight Banners” (military-administrative organizations of the Man nationality in the Qing Dynasty);

都统就是古代武职官名。始见于前秦。建元十九年（383年），“苻坚兴兵攻东晋，征富家子弟年二十以下者三万余骑，置少年都统一人领之。”。唐及辽、金亦置。武官名晋太元中，前秦苻坚兴兵侵晋，征富家子弟二十以下者共三千馀骑，始设少年都统，为带领青年士兵之将官。
